I watched a short film a while ago about on old man who was writing letters every day, just to tell people how special they were. I love to receive letters- that is, the handwritten type that has an actual stamp on it. Yes, email is quick, but the sense of holding something in your hand to read, knowing that the sender has also touched it, cared about it, just for your interest and pleasure, is really special.

It's a perfect excuse to resume contact with those we haven't spoken to in years, it saves wasting paper and postage on a Christmas card that may never arrive at its destination, and it means you can safely put the old one in the recycling.
